Everest VR

Share:

A virtual expedition to Mount Everest. Experience immersive  first-person locations as you strive to reach the top of the world. EVEREST VR is not designed as a game but as an accessible experience that focuses on the strengths of VR to transport you to an impossible real world location.

Experience Everest in five scenes. Prepare for your expedition at Basecamp, traverse the terrifying Khumbu Icefalls, overnight at Camp 4, ascend the perilous Hillary Step and finally conquer the summit of Everest.

After completing your first summit attempt, you unlock a God Mode to reach a unique vantage point of the Himalayas only possible in VR: Towering over the mountain range, a stunning VR diorama awaits. Powered by Unreal Engine, EVEREST VR delivers great visual fidelity and a true sense for the vastness of the mountains in the Himalayas.

There are voice-over sections that deliver some background info and objects to pick up and play around with, but at its heart, EVEREST VR is a linear experience that lasts around an hour in total.

About EVEREST VR (2016):

Forbes: “If at this point you still think VR is a gimmick, or a fad, it’s either because you haven’t tried it at all, or you haven’t tried the right experience. Screenshots can’t do this justice. Video can’t do this justice. My words, no matter how descriptive and colorful and emotional I make them, can’t do this justice.”

LA Times: “Indeed, by re-creating a mountain expedition so vividly and vertiginously, “Everest” suggests, perhaps more than any piece of content about a real-life place made to date, that VR can come tantalizingly close to replicating the real thing; this is as authentic as it gets without strapping on a backpack and hopping on an Asia-bound plane.”
